Code of Ethics

Inclusion, not exclusion. While Lambda is the LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce for Southern Nevada, we’re proud to claim many non-LGBTQ members as our allies. We’re in this for business, for equality, and even socialization. We don’t discriminate, even against folks “unfortunate enough” to not be LGBTQ.

Our Story

Founded in 1991 as a small networking club, Lambda quickly became Southern Nevada’s recognized Las Vegas LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce (IRS 501(c)6). Our members include LGBTQ-owned businesses, supportive allies, political leaders, nonprofits, and more—united by a shared pledge to our Code of Ethics. Over the years, we’ve grown our events, advocacy, and educational programs to drive visibility and opportunity for every member.

History of the Lambda Symbol

In the early 1970s, graphic designer Tom Doerr chose the Greek letter λ as the emblem for the New York chapter of the Gay Activists Alliance, inspired by its scientific connotation of “a complete exchange of energy—that moment or span of time witness to absolute activity.” In December 1974, the International Gay Rights Congress in Edinburgh officially adopted λ as the global symbol for gay and lesbian rights, and it has since inspired names like Lambda Legal and the Lambda Literary Foundation.
